BASS + VOICE Sunny Kim joins Seo Young Do, one of the leading bass players of Korea, to present a night of creative music, written by both Kim and Seo. The show will feature pianist Vian, saxophonist Sung Jae Son, guitarist Su Wook Chung, drummer Su Jin Seo, as well as an accomplished young modern dancer and choreographer Sung Yong Kim. This concert will be held at LIG Art Center, on December 30th 8pm.

Sunny Kim at the 3rd Seoul Meeting Free Music Festival (December 13th, 2007)

On December 13th, 2007 Sunny Kim joins the selected line-up of 32 local Korean artists to perform at the 3rd Seoul Meeting Free Music Festival. The the line-up includes artists of various disciplines such as Korean traditional singers, percussionists, actors, installation artists, dancers, western classical and jazz musicians residing in Korea. Conducted by organizer and jazz percussionist Jae Chun Park, the core of the performance of this unique gathering primarily proceeds as a collective free improvisation with minimal direction and written material.

Sunny Kim performs at the Korean Festival October 5th 2007 will be the first International Korean Day. To celebrate the enactment of International Korean Day, Korean Festival will be held from 4th through the 7th of October in various areas of Seoul. Sunny Kim will perform on two stages, first on the 6th, at the Dae-hak-ro stage, collaborating with the KBS Korean Traditional Orchestra, then on the 7th at the KT Art Hall with guest musicians invited from the US, pianist Dan Tepfer, bassist Jeremy Stratton and drummer Bryson Kern. Along with folk singer No, Kayo from Japan, pop singer Sarita from Austrailia, electronic gumungo player Jin Hee Kim from the US, Sunny Kim will join the line up of fine Korean artists residing overseas that have been invited to perform at this festival by the Overseas Korean Foundation.

THE FIRST KOREAN JAZZ MUSICIAN TO PERFORM AT NEWPORT JAZZ FESTIVAL

Sunny Kim will perform at the Newport Jazz Festival, as the first Korean jazz musician to appear at the prestigious historic jazz festival. Sunny Kim, whose active career is based in NYC, will perform with Roswell Rudd's group on the second day of the festival, August 11th, 4pm. According to a representative of Newport Jazz Festival, Kim will be the first Korean to perform at the festival in its 52 years of history. Sue Auclair said in a phone interview, "There have been many Japanese jazz musicians performing at the festival, but this will be the first time a Korean musician performs at the festival."

"Sunny is a fine and studied singer. With her will and determination she is developing her own musical personality and style. With her conservatory background and "chops". she is capable of taking on any kind of a challenge," Rudd commented on Kim's singing and added "In my music she handles the compositional demands with great eloquence and expertise...very sensitive to the musical and emotional demand of each song. I'm singing on the trombone and Sunny is a great complement to my efforts." Rudd first heard Kim's voice at Steve Lacy Tribute Concert in 2005, where Kim performed with Irene Aebi.

Stainwash Benefit Concert

Sunny will be appearing at the "Journey to the Fatherland," a benefit concert for Korean Christian artists' organization, Stainwash. Along with Sunny, many talented locally based Korean musicians of many genres will be performing. On this concert, Sunny will be singing repertoire from jazz and Korean pop.

2006 Spring Korea Tour

Sunny arrived in Korea to perform at various jazz clubs in Seoul as well as Daegoo. Her Pusan date at the Monk has been cancelled. Check the schedule for detailed information. (check schedule)

Sunny featured in Arirang TV 10 O'Clock News

On January 4th 2006, Arirang TV 10 O'Clock News featured Sunny's performance at Club Evans, Seoul, while reporting the growing interest in jazz among the Korean population. Arirang interviewed Sunny, who said that "jazz has become an international language..."

"The story came as a complete whole," says vocalist /composer/pianist, sunnY Kim, who is producing a multimedia show, #1 ANDROID ASCENSION: myth of miTch, (April 15th, 8pm, St. Botolph Hall, NEC) combining original music, improvisation, theater, visual art and dance, based on a story about a robot. "The details came later, filling in the substance to the whole." According to Kim, the story is about a robot named "perfect01" who builds a human version of herself. "The story is somewhat twisted... I don't know if my morals approve of it, but I guess creation could not doubt itself," says Kim, who keeps the rest of the story in mystery. "The point of the show is not the story, it is providing total experience for the audience." In this production, Kim is thrilled to experiment with seating formation, natural and artificial sounds, and different smells. #1 Android Ascension: myth of miTch will feature many talented young artists residing in Boston such as Joe Sexton, Jason Nazary, Dave Bryant, Kim Cass, and Sasah Brown.
