Artist Statement :
In this time of individualism, we are faced everyday with a deep sense of separation. This solitude puts us in a secret search for unconditional acceptance, love, and perhaps union with God (or the "all-that-is," "Higher Self" "Divine Love"...). I want to create a time and space for people to come to and feel connected, without discussing the differences or the similarities in us. Somewhere beyond words - where the divine love exists - is where Iinvite people to in this show.

Description
#1. Android Ascension: myth of miTch
is a multimedia performance piece based on a story about a robot called "perfect01, " that combines original music, dance, martial art, changing smells, seating formation, and improvisation. Delicately worked out, but also open, the form of the show leaves much space for artists involved to co-create the show, giving the artists much room to improvise. Audience participation is a big part to the completion of the show, and is achieved by setting a comfortable environment for moving around, dancing, and meditating. "#1. Android Ascension: myth of miTch" is the realization of the intention to provide a "total experience" for the audience to explore one's creative boundaries and to deeply connect with oneself and one another.

From the Premiere Performance on April 15 2005

The premier performance of the multimedia piece,#1. Android Ascension:myth of miTch, is composed of 11 young artists of diverse cultural and social backgrounds. (David Bryant ,Heather Masse, Jason Nazary, Sasha Brown, Joe Sexton, Michael Winograd, Dan Blacksberg, Sean Frenette, Tanya Jacobs, Mehmet Aydin, Sunny Kim) This diversity is very important to the show, because this show is about unity of different cultures, inner cultivation, freedom from social slavery, andfinding Higher Self (or God, or Divine Love). Based on a fictional story about a robot called Perfect01, this showis also about fun. Designed to be accessible to all, the show thrives to provide "total experience," where you can find kung fu fighting scene, belly dancing, changing smells, changing seating formation, choreographed dance and improvisation at the same time, in a seamless manner. In this way, this show is multi-dimensional. It's the kind of show that you can never get bored at. The music is also very multi-dimensional, having a strong rootin jazz with electronics, trip-hop, ambient and ethnic influences that may appeal to young audiencesin addition tothe usual jazz fans. The debut of the show on April 15th 2005 had the audience cry, laugh, and dance, and the cast members expressed that they were able to discover their hidden potential talents from this show. This show provides an environment where one feels comfortable to push their preconceived creative boundaries, for the cast members as well as the audience.
